Absolutely yes, I'd like to exchange blog links with you! Uh, "halfway between Tamp and Ft Myers" puts you... around Sarasota? I'm halfway between Sarasota and Ft Myers, in Punta Gorda.

I've added that missing contact information to my "About Me" page, but here it is again: info@ednakelly.com

Thank you for that information. I've never tried to grow a mango, started from seed or otherwise, so all I know about them is that every year my Dad gets very frustrated because a frost (or worse) always seems to hit his Port Charlotte home just when the mango is blooming. The tree survives but he only gets fruit every few years.

Hi, Deana. Now I know why I stopped getting your newsletter updates! The mango tree isn't looking so great. I totally forgot about it when we got hit with that freeze or I would have at least covered it. The stem is still flexible rather than brittle as it would be if it were dead, so I have some hope for it. That little thing is only about two feet tall, so it's going to be forever before it amounts to anything.

I added my email address on my "About Me" page, but for the record, here it is again: info@ednakelly.com

I'm not familiar with the Moringa Stenopetala at all... And there doesn't seem to be much information on it that I can find. Any info you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Will it grow in Ft Myers?

Don't see a contact link, so I'll just ask here if you'd like to exchange blog links with me. I live in SW Florida too, halfway between Tampa and Ft. Myers. My blog is http://theconsummategardener.com and I also write the South Florida Gardening column on Examiner.com ( http://www.examiner.com/x-8286-South-Florida-Gardening-Examiner ). I guess you can contact me by clicking on my name, or write me at dsa2591 at gmail.

A mango grown from seed may take up to 10 years to bear, or never bear at all. All mangos grown from seed have very small fruit, but usually very tasty. Remember that mango trees are very cold sensitive, and can be killed easily by just such a cold snap as the one we just had. They need to be protected for the first five years, and even that doesn't guarantee they will survive. But at the very least, they are very pretty shade trees.

Roselle | Southwest Florida Gardening...

Roselle is a tropical plant with attractive green leaves and bright red stems. It fits well in an edible landscape plan in SW Florida....

Miz Edna,
I enjoyed reading about your Moringa experiences.
A few weeks ago I planted 7 Moringa Stenepetala in pots in Yetebon Village Ethiopia.
Now I am back in Fort Myers and will probably, after a few years of being a "snow bird" be living here year 'round. My wife, being a native, prefers that.
I will try growing a few select veggies in the summer in the small area available to me.

You're right to warn your husband about the risk involved whenever there is a breeding age male around. The male of any species will protect his ladies, and some will fight to the death. At the moment, not only am I wearing bruises from the male goat, I also have a couple of peck marks on my legs from a rooster attack!
I was only trying to gather eggs, but he saw it as my attempt to molest his flock.
Bottom line, be careful around the male and don't let your guard down. You don't have to be afraid all the time but remember to be cautious. And if the male is bigger or heavier than you, don't go near him if you are all alone. You may not be as lucky as I was.
